Lake Placid

Founder Paul Phypers
realized that
the area's muck soil provided ideal
Ph to grow more than 50 varieties
of caladiums. He also knew that
research was the key to growing
these magnificent foliage plants
and encouraged the University
of Florida to begin research in
the 1970's.

Each August the town of
Lake Placid
hosts the Caladium Festival, with tours
to the caladium fields in full bloom.

Capital of the World"
is in and around the small, muraled,
central Florida town of Lake Placid.
It is here you will find Happiness Farms,
dedicated to growing a dazzling array
of colorful caladium flowers since 1964.

Paul Phypers died in 1999 but
his legacy remains. Paul's two sons
and seven grandchildren now operate
Happiness Farms. Stop in to purchase caladium bulbs, or just to
