Key West

The southernmost city of the
U.S. was a haven for pirates
and later a thriving economy
of "wrecking" (salvaging of
vessels in its pre-light house
era years until 1852)

Cigar Maker
Old Town has been and still
is a
refuge for writers and artists;
i.e. Ernest Hemingway, James
Audubon and others. Cigar
making and sponge diving
were major industries at
one time before relocating
to Tampa and Tarpon
Springs respectively.

Old Town
Several square blocks of restored
historic homes and structures
from the 19th century comprise
the tropical and free-spirited
district of Key West known
as "Old Town".

A charming waterfront district,
historical sites, and the lively
bars of Duval Street all con-
tribute to the allure of Key
West's Old Town. It's care-
free, relaxed attitude was
the inspiration for Jimmy
Buffet's "Margaritaville".
