Haines City
Walking beneath the awning-
shaded store fronts of this
placid village one would
never know it was once a
bustling citrus rail center.
In fact, the first citrus
processing plant was
built here in 1916.

Several other
examples of
early 20th century architec-
ture are in the downtown
area. The Clay Cut Center
(left) began as a grammar
school in 1923. Clay
Cut was the town's
original name.

The Consolodated Arcade (left)
was built in a masonry verna-
cular style in 1925 at a cost
of $75,000.
