The first inhabitants of this
lush, pristine island on the
St. Johns River were
Timucuan Indians.

Walk the nature trail that winds
through various plant communities
or stroll the museum for insights
into the islands history and
animal habitat.

A picnic area is located near the
boat basin.


There are six rustic cabins as well
as tent camping sites.

Canoe rentals are available.
 
Access to Hontoon Island is
available by a state operated ferry
(no fee) that runs from 8 A.M.
daily until sundown. (left)
